Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), are diseases that are passed from one person to another by having sexual contact. STD can be transmitted through any sexual activity that involves the mouth, anus, vagina, or penis.

According to the World Health Organization, up to 18% of world population becomes infected with a sexually transmitted disease each year. Half of all sexually active young adults get a sexually transmitted infection at least once by the age of 30. Although there are often no symptoms of sexually transmitted disease, STDs can be extremely serious and even life-threatening, and require treatment.

There are totally more than 20 types of STDs. Most often, sexually transmitted diseases affect both men and women; however, women are at higher risk for STDs complications and related health problems. Sexually transmitted disease can pass through placenta of a pregnant woman and cause serious health problems for the baby.
